Sulphur Recovery Technology

Troubleshooting
We review and analyse operating data to identify problems, root causes and corrective actions for:
- Catalyst deactivation: Rapid Claus-catalyst deactivation from contaminants (O₂, BTEX) or sulphur/soot deposition.
- Analyser & air-control errors: Inaccurate tail-gas analyser readings; we supply novel air-control schemes to maintain the ideal H₂S:SO₂ ratio.
- Waste-heat-boiler issues: Fouling leading to increased H₂S sulfidation corrosion, unplanned downtime and costly repairs.
Sulphur Recovery Experience
PNSD Group and Subsidiary Grenergy (with SVL Engineering & Mecpro Heavy Engineering) have designed and supported over 500 sulphur projects in the last 40+ years. Our experience covers a wide range of feed compositions and contaminants, including:
- Amine treating and regeneration (ARU)
- Sour-water stripping (SWS) – single and two-stage
- Sulphur recovery (SRU) – ammonia destruction
- Tail-gas treating (TGTU)
Unit sizes range from 4 to over 650 mT/day, achieving sulphur-recovery efficiencies of up to 99.98 %+ to meet the most stringent SO₂ emission limits.
SRU, SWS and ARU Design, Installation and Performance Optimisation – CHS Laurel, MT
PNSD Group and Subsidiary Grenergy provided full support from conceptual design to installation and performance optimisation for processing sour off-gas from a Coker. The scope included a primary amine absorber, LPG absorber, amine regenerator, COS converter, 1-stage SWS, SRU, amine-based TGTU and incinerator.
We also designed a new two-stage SWS unit and reviewed an existing ARU following a switch to high-nitrogen crude. The two-stage SWS dramatically improved SRU sulphur throughput by removing ammonia from the SRU feed, enhancing overall complex performance and emissions.

Expertise Fabrication
We Can Seamlessly Cover the Entire EPC Life Cycle
PNSD Group and Subsidiary Grenergy—together with technical partners SVL Engineering and Mecpro Heavy Engineering—provide flexible fabrication solutions, from small-scale replacements and repairs to modular elements for medium- to large-scale structures, and fabrication management for mega projects.
We deliver fabrication as a stand-alone service or as part of an integrated project. Local fabrication shops execute repair items, small-to-medium-scale elements and modular constructions. Through our EPC and project-management capabilities we routinely coordinate multiple fabrication yards for large-scale builds.
Integrated with our workshops are survey and rapid-turnaround scanning, multi-discipline engineering, construction and installation, plus commissioning engineers—allowing us to cover the entire EPC life cycle seamlessly.
Our service spectrum is fully scalable, driven by customer needs and project complexity. All tradesmen are qualified and certified, and we maintain in-house assessors for the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), ensuring every design and fabrication meets regulations.
